Jennifers road to recovery
Donation protected
The Firefighters at IFD Station 22 are banding together, disregarding the everyday argument of which shift is best, which shift hasn't gotten fuel or taken out the trash, to support our brother and his wife (our wife in-law?).
Last August Darwyn Abernathy and his wife Jennifer of almost 30 years, learned she has Ovarian cancer. Although they are fighting hard, it has metastasized and is spreading!
Darwyn is a well known firefighter throughtout IFD. He was hired Janurary 1995 and has been on Engine 22 for almost 20 years now, driving the engine for the past 8 years. IFD is a family affair to the Abernathy's. Darwyn's brother, Doug Abernathy, was hired June of 1988, More recently Darwyn and Jennifers son, Donavon Abernathy, was hired August 2015.
A lot of us know Darwyn, and lets be honest, he dislikes cooking. Although his catfish recipe is always welcomed here, we think Jennifer deserves a little more variety to her diet. Our goal is to be able to assit them with the things at home they dont need to worry about right now.
We will use these funds to make things a little easier for them at home, this includes:
1) Contract a house cleaning service, just so they dont have to worry about it.
2) Pay for meals to be sent to their house.
3) Assist with the costs of a home health care nurse.
4) And finally, assit them with the dreaded insurance deductible.
Time is of the essence and we need to provide our extended family with something positive in the days to come. We just ask that if you are able to give a little something, please help them out.
We don't do well with words here at the Double Deuces, but we excel with our actions. So when you help, we will say "thanks". It will be said quietly, sincerely and humbly. When the need arises somewhere else, we will be there to show our thanks.
