Empowering Youth, Defying Cancer : Support Lola

Lola Louis is a true inspiration to her community in the Northeast Bronx. Founder and Director of Lola Louis Creative and Performing Arts Studio in the Bronx, for over 50 years she has dedicated her life to bringing the performing arts to our under-served, at-risk, and autistic youth, providing them with a safe and creative outlet to express themselves. Lola has provided guidance to thousands of youngsters in our community, enabling and encouraging them into meaningful professional careers, including lawyers, engineers, and starring roles in movies and on Broadway. Lola has often opened her house to homeless young people, providing a safe shelter for them to get back on their feet. Lola has worked tirelessly over the years to keep the Creative and Performing Artis Studio (CAPAS) open as a resource for the community. CAPAS has always been a place where children and families in our community felt free to discuss our history and use the performing arts to open their minds and realize their full potential. However, Lola’s journey has now taken an unexpected turn. She was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and urgently needs our help.

Lola's cancer has progressed rapidly, and she is scheduled for surgery in the coming weeks. This surgery is critical to her survival, but it comes with a heavy cost. Lola is appealing to her community for financial support to supplement her health insurance and the support she has been receiving from her family. This occurs at a particularly difficult time, as CAPAS was just starting to recover from the severe loss of activity and income suffered during the shutdown of the pandemic.

We are asking for your help to raise $100,000 for Lola's medical and living expenses. Lola has touched so many lives in her community, and we, as former students, want to support her during this difficult time.

Lola's work with at-risk youth has been nothing short of miraculous. She has given so much to her community, and now it's our turn to give back. She has inspired countless young people to pursue their dreams and reach for the stars, and we believe that it's our responsibility to help her continue to do so.
