When hurricanes and cyclones strike, they don’t just destroy homes.
They destroy vital infrastructure: farms, boats, health access, and the safety nets women depend on.
In places like Fiji — still recovering from Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston, the most destructive cyclone ever recorded in the Southern Hemisphere — many communities were left without funds and means to rebuild their homes and community spaces. After government and aid organizations exhausted their budgets, entire villages were still waiting.
Waiting for materials.
Waiting for medical care.
That’s where we step in.
We train Indigenous women in to rebuild their homes and communities using sustainable, locally sourced materials. Our team is Fiji Institute of Sustainable Habitats (FISH) and Global Women's Empowerment Network (GWEN) www.GWEN.global. This year we are going to Mexico, Fiji, and New Zealand to continue our work.
We provide:
* Free hands-on building workshops for 15 women at a time
* Training in rapid, cyclone-resilient construction using palm fiber, pumice rock, sand, clay, seawater, and other natural materials
* Emergency medical assistance and untreated injury care
* Essential medical supplies, food support, and emergency transport
Each trained woman commits to teaching three more women in neighboring villages — multiplying knowledge and resilience throughout the region.
Our labor is our donation.
But materials, transport, medical supplies, and workshop costs require funding.
After disasters, many families have no money to import expensive building supplies. Homes remain damaged. Women lose safe gathering spaces. Families crowd into relatives’ houses.
Without rebuilding skills and resources, recovery stalls for years.
Our prototypes — built almost entirely from local materials — have withstood major hurricanes. We combine sustainable construction with Indigenous knowledge and community leadership.
We don’t just rebuild structures.
We rebuild independence.
Your contribution directly funds:
* Sustainable building materials
* Roofing and structural supplies
* Medical kits and essential care
* Workshop tools and training resources
* Transport to reach remote villages
Most importantly, your donation subsidizes women’s education — practical, life-saving skills that allow them to rebuild quickly, safely, and independently.
A portion of this initiative will be documented as a global 3-part docu-series by award-winning filmmaker Tess Cacciatore, alongside builder Phillip Mirkin.
The series will follow these women as they rebuild and teach others, helping amplify their leadership, resilience, and cultural knowledge on a global stage.
The documentary serves to expand support, inspire replication, and ensure these communities are not forgotten.
When you give, you are not just funding materials.
You are funding:
* Skill
* Safety
* Dignity
* Leadership
* Community resilience
Teach a woman to fish — and she teaches a community to thrive.
Thank you for standing with them.
