Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: A Journey to Empower Women
For Shahd Waleed Mahdy
After four relentless attempts, I’m overjoyed to share that I’ve been accepted into the Women2Women program—a dream I’ve chased for years! While I’ve secured a full-ride scholarship and received unwavering support from my family, I’m still facing financial hurdles to fully realize this opportunity. From visa fees to essential living costs, my minimum estimated expenses exceed 30,000 EGP (over $600 USD), a sum that feels daunting but not insurmountable.
My journey began with a pivotal "YES": being named the only Egyptian woman selected as a SUSI Scholar last year. SUSI was more than an academic program—it was a turning point. When I returned home, I felt a deep responsibility to pay it forward. I launched SkillZo Hub, a community initiative mentoring young women and youth to secure scholarships, negotiate family support, and claim opportunities they once thought impossible.
One of my proudest moments? Convincing a high school girl’s family to let her travel to India for an AFS exchange program. I saw myself in her—the same fear, the same ambition, and the same need for someone to believe in her. Today, SkillZo Hub has grown into a movement, proving that one “YES” can ignite countless others.
Now, W2W is my next chapter. This isn’t just about me; it’s about amplifying my work to empower under-resourced women in Egypt and worldwide. When women rise together, we dismantle barriers and redefine what’s possible.
This is my proof of consent:
- SUSI Scholar turned advocate.
- Founder of SkillZo Hub, mentoring 100+ youth.
- Changemaker determined to turn challenges into global impact.
With your support, I can bridge this financial gap and continue creating ripples of change. Let’s write more “YES” stories—for me, for her, and for every woman daring to dream.
