Asgori Elementary School, located in the South West Shewa area, has been a vital educational institution for generations, including my father's time there. However, it is currently facing severe shortages of basic school supplies. For many students, the lack of notebooks, pencils, and textbooks creates significant barriers to their education. Due to the limited resources, there is no middle school or high school available in Asgori; students must travel to another district for their education, often walking 3-4 hours to reach a school. This journey is daunting, and many students drop out after elementary school because they cannot afford to relocate for further education. As students pursuing higher education, we recognize the immense privilege that comes with having access to resources, and we believe every child deserves that same opportunity. By providing these supplies, we aim to help create an environment where students can fully engage in their education and envision a brighter future.
This project is close to my heart, as my father once attended Asgori Elementary, and I’ve seen how critical it is for students here to have the support they need to thrive. Through the Oromo Student Association (OSA) at the University of Maryland, we’re working to provide these students with essential school supplies. Our goal is to ensure that every student at Asgori Elementary has the tools they need to succeed academically and pursue a brighter future.
When this initiative is successful, our hope is to extend these efforts to more schools across Ethiopia, supporting students in underserved communities who face similar challenges. By donating, you’re not only helping the students of Asgori Elementary but also contributing to a vision of educational equity across Ethiopia. Please consider supporting this cause whether through a donation or by sharing this campaign with others. The funds will be used to resupply the schools necessary needs such as books, pencils, and book bags. Together, we can empower the next generation of students and create a lasting impact. Thank you for helping us bring educational resources to where they are needed most.
