I am reaching out to you today on behalf of Team Jermikko, a dedicated group of individuals striving to make a positive impact on the lives of troubled teens in difficult areas, while simultaneously reviving the once-thriving garment industry in our great city of Chicago.

Our fundraiser, which initially focused on providing teens with opportunities to learn valuable skills in the garment production industry, has evolved to include an even broader goal. We believe that many young people growing up in challenging circumstances face numerous obstacles and often struggle to find positive directions in life. As we witnessed just a few weeks ago on Michigan Ave, where 200 young individuals resorted to rioting and destroying property out of anger, frustration, and fear, it became apparent that we need to extend our efforts to address the root causes of such actions.

In addition to our commitment to opening doors for teens in need, we have decided to embark on an ambitious mission to encourage and train these young individuals to embrace garment manufacturing. We firmly believe that not everyone chooses to pursue a college education, and that a great skill can be just as rewarding. By nurturing their talent and providing a supportive environment, we can empower them to succeed while contributing to the revival of our city's garment industry.

As a longtime designer and manufacturer, I have personally witnessed the gradual decline of our once-plentiful workforce in garment production. It is disheartening to see the lack of pattern makers, professional seamstresses, pattern graders, and other essential elements necessary to create high-quality garments. This issue requires immediate attention, and we are determined to make a difference by investing in the next generation of American garment producers.

Inspired by numerous conversations with small companies and individuals in the garment industry, we have decided to broaden our program. Our ultimate goal is to secure a larger workspace that can accommodate a greater number of teens and equip it with the modern machinery required for contemporary garment production. By doing so, we aim not only to reduce the need for outsourcing production to countries like China but also to establish a new industry of garment producers right here in Chicago.

To achieve our objectives, we are seeking funds to acquire essential machines integral to modern-day garment production. These include the Gerber Machine, Automatic Buttonholer and Button, Spreaders, Automatic Pocket Setters, Automatic Cutting Machines, and Heavy-Duty Pressors, among others. By obtaining these machines, we can provide hands-on training to the next generation of producers and create a productive work environment capable of handling contract work and in-house work with paid salaries.

Just as we invest in training doctors, lawyers, teachers, and nurses, we must invest in nurturing and developing talent in the garment industry. By supporting our fundraiser, you will be contributing to the revitalization of an industry that was once a flourishing beacon of opportunity in Chicago.
