The Story:
Every week, without fail, I sit down at my desk, fire up my screen reader, navigate my playlist software in Braille, and produce a syndicated gospel radio show heard by listeners across the world. I do all of this without being able to see a single pixel of my screen. My name is Kazeem — most people know me as DJ Jhyde — and I am totally blind.
Today I am asking for your help with something that will directly protect my ability to keep doing what I do: producing music, serving my community, and empowering others who are navigating life without sight.
What I Need and Where I Am
I am raising £5,499 to upgrade from my ageing BrailleNote Touch Plus to the BrailleNote Evolve, the most advanced Braille computer available. I have personally committed £250 from my own savings to show that this matters deeply to me. With your help, I am working to close the remaining gap.
Every pound raised brings me one step closer to the tools I need to keep working at the level my community deserves.
Why the BrailleNote Evolve?
The BrailleNote Evolve is not simply a Braille display. It is a full-powered computer running Windows 11 Pro, purpose-built for blind professionals. For someone like me, it is the equivalent of a sighted person upgrading from a decade-old laptop to a modern workstation. My current device is struggling to keep pace with the demands of professional broadcast and training software, and the gap is getting wider every month.
The Rhythm Divine Show with DJ Jhyde
For years I have produced and presented The Rhythm Divine Show, a weekly syndicated urban contemporary gospel programme. As a totally blind DJ, every task that a sighted broadcaster does by sight — cueing tracks, reading scripts, managing playlists, responding in real time — I do through Braille and audio. Speed and precision are not luxuries; they are necessities.
The Evolve will give me the processing power and software compatibility to work at the pace that professional broadcasting demands. I.T. Training for London’s Blind Community
Alongside my broadcasting work, I provide I.T. training through a London charity, working with blind and partially sighted individuals — many of them elderly people who have only recently lost their sight. For these trainees, learning to use a computer with assistive technology is not a hobby. It is the difference between isolation and connection, between dependency and independence.
When I sit with a trainee who is frightened and overwhelmed by their new reality, I am not just their instructor. I am living proof that losing your sight does not mean losing your place in the world. To be that person effectively, I need to remain at the cutting edge of assistive technology. The BrailleNote Evolve allows me to do exactly that.
How You Can Help
Your support — at whatever level — makes a direct difference:
• A donation of any size goes directly toward the Evolve and helps me keep producing, training, and serving.
• Sharing this campaign — on social media, by email, or simply by telling someone — is just as valuable as donating. The wider this reaches, the closer we get.
• If you know an organisation, trust, or business that supports disability inclusion or assistive technology, please pass this campaign along to them.
This campaign is about more than one device. It is about the radio show that lifts people’s spirits each week, the trainees in London learning to navigate a world they can no longer see, and the simple truth that blind people deserve access to the same quality of tools as everyone else.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for caring. And thank you for helping me keep the music — and the training — going.
With gratitude,
Kazeem (DJ Jhyde) Busari
