Summary:

Since 2016, the Koli Intellectual Forum (KIFA) has conducted action research in the Koli District Government in Uganda and concluded that children in government primary schools in this area are underperforming due to several weaknesses. However, some solutions have been identified; the research revealed that the main problem originates in almost every child's home, with girls being the most affected. KIFA intends to empower girls through home economics.

Challenge:

After KIFA conducted action research in this area from 2016 to date, specifically in underperforming government primary schools, the performance of these schools has improved significantly. However, when the project team followed up on their students, the results revealed that a larger percentage, approximately 80%, did not advance to the next level of education due to their families' inability to provide for their school needs.

Solution:

This project aims to address this problem by empowering girls to become self-reliant through home economics. Contrary to the traditional lifestyles girls in this region have previously experienced, the project aims to equip them with this knowledge and hone their skills, enabling them to build stable, economically sustainable homes capable of addressing their children's educational needs and beyond.

Long-Term Impact:

In the long term, if out-of-school girls in this region are empowered with home economics knowledge, they will undoubtedly be able to build economically viable homes that benefit their community. At the same time, they will be able to provide their children with basic school supplies, improving the quality, sustainability, and potential of their education.
