Empowering Babies, Girls and Women in Harlem

#EndofYearGiving

The past year and a half has devastated many communities. Harlem, NYC is no exception. The loss of life and lack of educational opportunities, including the digital divide, added additional challenges to a community already in need of resources. The Five Pearls Foundation exists to stand in the gap for youth and families of Harlem through prenatal care and education, enrichment activities for girls, and scholarship opportunities for high schoolers.

The Five Pearls Foundation provides funding and resources to the following programs:

The Harlem Stork's Nest, a prenatal education and community development initiative created through a partnership with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Sigma Nu Zeta Chapter, Harlem Hospital, and the March of Dimes. The Stork's Nest works to reduce the premature birth rate for women of color in Harlem and provides nutrition education, infant CPR training, breastfeeding classes, and more to women in Harlem. The women served by Stork's Nest are often immigrants, survivors of sexual assault and/or human trafficking, and are economically disadvantaged. Continued funding will allow us to create a community that can assist these families have healthy babies who not only survive but thrive.

Sigma Nu Zeta Chapter Youth Auxiliaries provide cultural and educational programming for girls ages 4 - 18. The youth are actively involved in community service including anti-bullying and breast cancer awareness. Although meeting in person was a challenge this past year the girls created virtual cooking classes and learned about horticulture through grow-at-home kits. With increased funding, Sigma Nu Zeta will be able to expand its youth programming to include a youth empowerment day as well as interactive virtual programming to keep the girls engaged and involved with their communities and education.

The Lori C. Pemberton Scholarship is named after one of the Founders of the Five Pearls Foundation, and its treasurer. Lori believed in educational opportunities for every child, and when she passed away from breast cancer a scholarship was created in her name for high school seniors in the five boroughs of New York City who are seeking higher education. Sigma Nu Zeta also offers a scholarship for young women graduating from high school.

With your support, The Five Pearls Foundation can continue to uplift these programs and expand them in a time when the Harlem Community is in deep need of relief. Please click and donate what you can and share with others. Your contribution will make an impact whether $5 or $500 every little bit helps. Thank you in advance for your support!
