Our Why
Young people from the Global Majority are amongst those most affected by climate change. Yet, they remain underrepresented where it matters most: In climate policy decision making fora at national, regional and global levels, including in the global climate regime under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
That's where we come in . . .
Who we are
We are the Climate Leadership Initiative (CLI). Through our flagship New Generation program we empower young climate negotiators from across the world to ensure they can assume their rightful seats at decision making tables on climate policy.
What we do
To equip young negotiators with the skills they need to represent their countries and advocate for those on the frontlines within them, we use a three-pronged approach:
- Enhancing technical knowledge through thematic workshops
- Providing training on soft skills such as leadership through coaching and mentorship
- Providing space to discuss mental health and wellbeing
How we empower young climate leaders
We work with small groups of young climate negotiators through our fellowship program in partnership with the leadership of vulnerable country groups negotiating under the UNFCCC. This allows us to go deep and to tailor support for what each individual needs.
We hold an office hour every other week that alternatives between a thematic workshop and a coaching call. Each fellow is also paired with a mentor who can support them in the way they need.
How you can help us
We are currently fundraising to enable 23 young climate leaders (8 of our next cohort of New Generation fellows and 15 of our alumni) to participate in COP 30, to take place in Belém, Brazil from 10 to 21 November, 2025.
This will enable these young change makers and thought leaders to:
- Bring local realities and community need into global policymaking
- Support their countries delegation as knowledge providers
- Speak truth to power on behalf of vulnerable communities within their countries to contribute in safeguarding a healthy and livable planet for all
The funding will be used to enable the fellows to travel to Belém, cover their accommodation and ensure they can meet their basic needs while there.
What you can do
- Donate generously to empower young climate leaders from the Global South
- Share this GoFundMe with your friends, family, colleagues, gamer’s guild, knitting club, hiking group and everyone else you know
- Follow us on social media to see the impact of your support
Thank you in advance for your support of our work!
