Emily is a 23 year old living in Richmond, VA and originally from Franklin, VA. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015 and has been working at a Juvenile Correctional Center as a Rehabilitation counselor.
Emily scheduled a regular doctor appointment for Monday, March 1st. She had some chest pain and cold symptoms. That morning, she noticed a lymph node in her neck was swollen and asked her doctor to check it out. They did some scans on Friday, March 3rd to ease her mind and told her that they would be in touch around Wednesday, saying that no news was good news. But on Monday she received a phone call from an oncologist. The scans revealed a 15cm mass in her chest resembling lymphoma.
That week, and the weeks since, have consisted of constant tests and trips to the hospital. On March 15th she received the official news from her biopsy that she had Nodular Sclerosis Hodgkin's Lymphoma. On March 22nd it was determined to be Stage 4 since it has spread to her liver.
The recommended treatment is chemo for 6 months, followed by radiation.
To date, Emily has undergone a biopsy surgery, a port placement surgery, had a stent placed because her airway was only open 1mm due to the tumor pushing on it and has had her first chemo treatment.
