Empower Women, Support Family: The BOYDS' Lawn Care Dream
Hello, my name is Tabitha Boyd and I am in the beginning stages of opening my own all-electric, woman-owned and operated lawn mowing business. Tell my story? Phew... long story short, I grew up as a ward of the court in the state of Indiana. I was put up for adoption at age 8 and never adopted. I was removed and given back multiple times to step-parents before years of in and out of different group homes, foster homes, and detention centers. It's just me and my kiddo. My past is full of abandonment, drugs, a bad hand in life, and very poor decisions. No direction into adulthood and left to be a single mother by choice of convictions. I have lost multiple jobs in the last year due to attendance from my son's illnesses and daycare guidelines. The jobs that are more flexible and understanding vs. a position with a point system demanding termination pay considerably less. So here I am, 31, a single mother with the task of providing for my son and I struggle financially more than I like to admit. I unfortunately struggle to obtain my goals for our life and am unwilling to accept this is it. I'm capable of more and I HAVE and will do more for my child. We are living week to week, which is extremely stressful. So, I have said no more.
I've started this GoFundMe to see if people would help me achieve my dream of success. Not just my success, success for my family's future and other women as well. Even though I didn't receive correct character development, I have learned it is important to empower other women. Also, alone as I have been, I understand I can't do it all by myself. Most importantly, even with no family support or guidance, family is also very important to me. I want to give my son a good example to follow and give him all the opportunities he will need and deserves. I know nothing in life comes easy and rarely free. I'm not asking for a handout. I wholeheartedly believe in giving back and will always do for the good of others, which is an enormous part of my business plan.
I genuinely enjoy lawncare work and wish I would have done this years ago! My intention is to be woman-owned and operated. I will be giving jobs to women who otherwise would be uncomfortable in these types of roles. I will strive in professionalism and make my employees feel safe, appreciated, and be dedicated to them as I will require them to be with our customers. I'm a firm believer in someone who works hard for their money and when choosing products and services should have certain expectations. Those expectations need to met. I intend to meet and exceed our customers standards. Beyond all that, I have years of experience in multiple positions in the lawncare industry. My pesticide applicator license has expired but I plan to get multiple certifications/licensing, current training, and education to better serve me in my field. Please help me, help my family, and help the people in my community get above bar services from someone who cares. I began this journey on 4/14. I've spent almost $500 so far on over $1500 worth of tools and batteries in the startup of this company and have one client with multiple services on their 1/3 acre lawn account. I am meeting with a business advisor tomorrow for next steps. I have started a 6-month membership with my local entrepreneur hub and have ordered 1000 business cards.
I need financial help and I have no one else to ask; thank you for reading.
