Hi, I'm Violet! Muslim, Gambian American, 20something, mother, birthworker, and more.
I'm a student midwife working towards my degree at a MEAC accredited school, apprentice with local homebirth midwives, and my heart and soul lie with Traditional Midwifery & decolonization; so, I also sit at the feet of and learn from a variety of Traditional Midwives around the globe. In addition, I am currently building up my business, Uwemi Wellness, which offers a range of services that continue to grow with my developing education, the ultimate goal is to be a holistic community wellness hub.
When people ask how my journey started, I usually go to my story about learning about doulas during my first pregnancy or talk about my mom's birth of my little brother or mention how I was born at home during peak unpopularity for homebirths in the U.S. ... but really my story spans generations. Midwifery is in my D.N.A.
I am a full-time student, primary parent of 3 kids under age 5, community volunteer, and also working to grow a business that supports myself and my loved ones as well as pours back to others in abundance. I'm raising funds to support my education including: tuition, school supplies, exam and licensing fees, midwifery supplies, complimentary certifications, international educational opportunities and experiences (particularly 4 upcoming ones on the continent of Africa and 1 to Malaysia), childcare, and living expenses.
I greatly appreciate any financial donation, no matter the amount, and if you can't donate financially any other contribution, be it time, sharing the campaign, client referrals, professional connections, food, etc. are also greatly valued. Thank you so much for your support!
<3 Violet
