My name is Ugo Amadi and I suddenly experienced whole-body paralysis that impacted all of my bodily functions and was hospitalized for 6 months. I was diagnosed with transverse myelitis and lost my ability to walk as well as use my arms and hands. I completed an intensive recovery program at Spalding Rehabilitation Center in Cambridge. Now, I'm in outpatient therapy at Baystate and am working hard to regain as much strength as possible and return to the things I used to do.
I am raising funds to purchase an adaptive device to help me with my limited hand function. This device would allow me to finish my education at UMass Lowell as well as other important things.
I am 15 credits from graduating with a bachelor's in business administration. My insurance will not cover this device; however, it would make a huge impact on my independence. Any excess funds raised will be put towards other medical expenses or equipment.
