Year 4 of my effort to empower children through education!

 

It's been a crazy year, hasn't it? While I'm beyond grateful that our kids at Angel's orphanage have been safe and sheltered, I know it's been tough. Among other things, their schools went virtual and they didn't have the tools needed to take classes online. So with some left over money from last year's fundraiser, we were able to buy them tablets and phones (and receive donations for the same) that they could share to continue their education. 

 

3 years ago, it started with funding two girls from an orphanage in Bangalore, India. With the donations we collected, we were able to pay for the girls' school fees, books, stationary, uniforms, and anything else that was needed. In year 2 we raised enough money to do this for four children from the same orphanage. I aimed for 6 in year 3 but got to 5. But it's lovely how the universe works - through the year we found out about the daughter of a house help having to leave school because of a shortage of funds due to Covid. And you already know what happened :) we're now at 6. And I'm hoping we can continue to raise this number and make this effort way bigger than me.

 

Angel's orphanage, Bangalore, is home to more than 50 children and 5 volunteer staff. The orphanage helps orphaned and abandoned children by providing them safety, nutrition, education, medical attention and the love that every child deserves. Their main aim is to educate the children to make them self reliant.

 

I know that there are many organizations that do this, but in my research I found that almost 80% of the donation could go towards admin costs - which, to me, is unacceptable. So we want to do this personally - with the admin totally non-profit. Please be assured that 100% of your donation (except the % that gofundme takes in the transfer) goes to the orphanage directly and towards the kids' education.

 

This is my annual birthday donation and I will keep it up till October 15th, so please make your donations by then :)
