Empower Tanzanian Kids with School Supplies

My name is Nichesius Godwini. I am a PhD student in the Mary Frances Early College of Education at the University of Georgia in the United States, originally from Tanzania in East Africa.
I am sharing this story because I know—personally and deeply—how access to basic school supplies can change the entire course of a child’s life.

I grew up in extreme poverty. As a child, I often went to school barefoot, wearing dirty and torn uniforms. My family simply could not afford more. Some of my classmates, despite coming from more stable homes, showed me kindness by sharing shirts with me. Those small acts of love meant more than they could ever imagine.
At the time, corporal punishment was allowed in Tanzanian schools. My class teacher frequently beat me, accusing me of being “dirty.” I tried to explain that I washed my uniform every night and ironed it using a charcoal iron, but the punishment continued. Eventually, he gave me names that I was labeled in front of the entire class. The humiliation was heartbreaking.

Some classmates from more stable families shared extra shirts with me. Yet I noticed something powerful: whenever I received a donated shirt or a cleaner uniform, my confidence changed. I felt like I belonged. My academic performance improved. I raised my hand more. I believed in myself again.
Later, a headteacher recognized my potential and chose to invest in me. He provided what might seem like small things—school supplies, encouragement, and care. Those “small things” transformed my academic journey and my life.

Why This Cause Matters
Today, thousands of children in Tanzania are living the same story I lived. Unfortunately, there are no formal or consistent programs addressing the basic school needs of the most vulnerable children—especially orphans and children from extremely poor households.
With this reality close to my heart, I founded a nonprofit organization called Domicile of Success Organization (DOSO Safespace) together with a committed team. One of our core focus areas is education, with a special emphasis on providing school supplies and uniforms to the most vulnerable children.
Our Current Mission
We have identified 40 highly vulnerable students—20 boys and 20 girls—whom we aim to support initially. Our team in Tanzania worked closely with teachers to complete academic and needs assessment forms, and we personally visited the children’s homes to meet parents and guardians.
While the need is far greater, we made the careful decision to start with the most vulnerable children. Of these students, 20 are already being supported directly by our organization, and we are now seeking support to fully equip all 40 children as the new school year approaches in January.
Even supporting one child makes a life-changing difference.
How Your Support Helps
Your contribution will go directly toward providing school uniforms, shoes, backpacks, and essential learning materials—items that restore dignity, confidence, and the ability to focus on learning.
Our team is fully prepared to deliver all items directly to the children. We are also happy to connect donors directly with individual students if desired. We have verified contacts, photos, and school details for every child.
