Dear Friends,
For my Eagle Scout project (as a part of Boy Scout Troop 581 of Gainesville, VA), I am undertaking an exciting and impactful endeavor aimed at helping Fire Departments in areas bordering National Parks better contain wildfires that can endanger their communities.
Stanley, VA is one such community. It has a moderate risk of wildfire over the next 30 years, and there are over 163 properties that have some risk of being affected by wildfires. The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department has an urgent need to be able to digitally access location and structure information, water and power lines, access roads, and evacuation routes.
My project will help the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department by:
• Digitizing community data
• Aggregating available environment data
• Creating a website to query and display the data, and
• Providing satellite internet connectivity for stable access to the data at all times.
Your support and contributions will help fund the gathering and compilation of this data, and the purchase of a Starlink kit and subscription for the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department to be able to access this data for wildfire fighting efforts.
Please join me in making a difference in protecting our parks and communities from the devastating effects of wildfires.
