Hello! We are Southern Pride singers, an all inclusive family drum group from Oklahoma, representing many tribal Nations. We are southern powwow singers and dancers, stomp dancers and leaders, and Longhouse singers, representing several generations. We started our singing group more than 20 years ago when local two spirit organizations had difficulty finding singers for their events. We then began traveling all over the United States singing for different groups who were offering inclusive spaces for our two spirit relatives. Every member of our group is either two spirit or a fierce ally, believing that it is time we decolonize our ideas of gender and create safe spaces for our two spirit people to return to. Our group is founded on the idelas of Love, Family, Culture and Inclusion.
This year our drum group has been asked to travel to San Fransisco by the BAAITS organization to sing for their annual powwow in February. It is a great honor to be asked and our drum has traveled out there many times in years past, sometimes with a large group and sometimes with only a few singers. We would love to take a proper drum group this year and represent the Pride, diversity and beauty our state has to offer, but we will need assistance for travel, lodging and food to be able to fulfill our obligations to the BAAITS Committee to the best of our ability. We humbly do our very best to follow those ways that we were given and to pass those things on to our future generations and share that healing and good feelings with all people.
