My name is Sofia, and I come from the heart of Colombia, South America. The violin has been my passion since I was five years old — more than just an instrument, it’s a part of me, a voice for my soul. I try to practice every day, at least 45 minutes, but there are moments when time disappears, and I could play for hours, even days, without pause.
I've been blessed to share music with others through orchestras across the country — from Ruth Eckerd Hall in Florida at age 12, to the Music in the Mountains Youth Symphony in Grass Valley at 15, and now as a member of the San Diego Youth Symphony. Music has opened doors, but so has faith. I am a firm believer in God, and He has guided me every step of the way.
Now 16, I attend Cathedral Catholic High School, where I work hard as a straight-A student. History and science are my curiosity, but it’s through leadership and service that I’ve found some of my greatest joys — giving back to the community through volunteering, distributing food, and sharing music at church every Sunday.
Being in America and having the chance to grow, learn, and dream here is something I hold deeply in my heart. One day, I hope to become a doctor, to travel, to perform, and above all, to serve. With God and the support of those around me, I’m determined to pursue the best education I can — and to use it to make a difference.
With your help I will be able to pay for my school, so that I may grow not only closer to my faith, but grow closer to my community, education and most importantly my instrument .
