For those of you who know me you might have wondered what happened to me but for the ones that don’t know me this is my story.

My name is Sherri, I am the former president of the nonprofit The UnderWings Project and Means To An End Adult Remedial Driving School LLC. in Cleveland, Ohio. My sister Yvette and I started the agency in 2007, as I was learning how to walk again. I made a promise to God if he revived me, I would return his commitment to me and help women of domestic violence recover themselves.

Before I learned to sit up, I was on my journey, speaking to women of domestic violence at shelters. The UnderWings Project provided a safe place for women of domestic violence to make them whole again by removing barriers to recovery.

With the partnership of the Allstate foundation and their contributions we managed to save more than a handful of survivors. We continued with our (PSA) public service announcement billboards. They reached as far as Columbus Ohio. It was a milestone for us, maneuvering through the circumstances. I hope we made a difference and enlightened more of these special women than we knew about and carried our pledge From Hope To Recovery.

We opened our doors in 2007 and quietly closed them in 2012, without a word. I had another calling I became a caregiver to my ailing parents for 13 years until the passing of my father in 2019 from Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer’s and the passing of my mother in 2023 from Covid. We were secluded together and now there is a suitcase of left behind unpublished books from our many conversations.

When you are a caregiver, you lose pieces of yourself and your purpose becomes someone else’s life sustainer. I am now in a stage of discovery of myself. I can now place myself first and take myself into consideration. I’m learning how to live again.

  • Help me keep Hope alive as I navigate through spine and muscle specialist to find relief from Spasmodic Torticollis a disorder inflicted by domestic violence injures. I have learned to tolerate its many side effects. I want to see this part of my life lived without the discomforts and crutches.

I can finally focus on the person I lost.

Fingers crossed for reaching a goal of $25,000. I am grateful for every $5 $10 $15 dollar donation I respect the giving.
