My journey to Miss New York-
Hey y'all, Shania here. If you know me, then you understand how much of a big deal this is. If you don't, here's the skinny...
This year I've had the blessing of being selected to compete in the Miss New York Pageant.
This has been a goal of mine since 2020, along with going back to college and completing the coursework needed for me to become a teacher. Both of these goals have meant a lot to me, but throughout the pandemic and losing some of the people closest to me, I had placed them on the back burner.
This year, these goals are front and center.
This pageant is not just a competition, but an opportunity for me to represent my community, make a meaningful impact, and a chance to win scholarships that would help me afford going back to college.
In my day-to-day job as a Remote Setting Technician for the Billion Oyster Project, I get to lend a hand in an effort towards restoring the pre-existing oyster population that once made the New York Harbor a biodiverse hub for aquatic life. This is my heart's work.
Miss New York is an opportunity for me to not only spread that message and educate people about our waters and the communities in and around them, but an opportunity for me to pursue 3 of my dreams all in one go. Moments like this don't come around very often, I won't let this one pass.
I am asking for support to raise $3,000. This will cover:
- my entry fee
- my sponsorship fee
- transportation
This competition requires significant investment... others are asking for anywhere between $5,000-$10,000 to cover coaching, wardrobe, walking classes, dance classes, photoshoots, and many other things that are part of the pageant world. Donations will be helpful on this journey, but all I ask is that you share this link to help me spread the word.
Every action and or donation, big or small, helps me move forward with my purpose- using this opportunity to educate and empower young minds, represent diverse passions, and pursue a career that satisfies my heart, mind, and soul.
Thank you for believing in me.
