As-salamu alaikum (Peace be with you),

In this world we find ourselves in, this point in history, it is difficult for me to make this request. However, circumstances have left me no other choice. The scam of health insurance strikes again!

For two primary medical reasons, I find myself in need of a specialized wheelchair sooner than my doctors expected and sooner than I had hoped. Some of you have already seen me using a wheelchair at MAPS Redmond or out shopping. The chair I have now is not designed and fit for me, which will cause further injury to my spine, shoulders, elbows and hands. It is also too heavy for me, given the needs of my condition, so my doctors have ordered a custom-sized lightweight wheelchair to reduce the chances of injury to my spine, shoulders, elbows and hands.

As you can see from the attached images, my insurance (Aetna) is under contract with the wheelchair vendor (NSM). This contract FORCES people like me who have MEDICAL NEED for a lightweight chair to pay for the ENTIRE chair, instead of just the frame upgrade.Aetna's Clinical Policy Bulletin on wheelchairs labels lightweight frames a "customer vanity choice", which is absolute nonsense.

I am entirely unable to afford this without help...the total ($6,483) is roughly 22% of my annual gross income. Even after negotiating a 25% discount with the vendor, it's much more than I have.

Many of you in this community know me as a Ramadan volunteer, as someone who teaches driving lessons for the daughters and mothers of our community, you know me as your friend or your neighbor. Please considering donating and sharing this fundraiser, empowering me to purchase this wheelchair, adapt to the changes in my life and move forward. In sha' Allah, even as my disability progresses, I will continue serving my creator with every breath that I am given.
