Empower Safer Storytelling with Emmalys Caamaño

Hello! My name is Emmalys Caamaño, and I'm an aspiring intimacy coordinator at the Savannah College of Art and Design, studying in Film and Television. I'm passionate about storytelling that not only respects boundaries, but empowers performers, and creates safer sets. As someone building a career in film and television, I’ve witnessed just how powerful storytelling can be but also how easily performers can be left feeling exposed or unsupported, especially during intimate scenes. Without the right guidance, these moments can become uncomfortable or even unsafe. That’s why I’m taking the next step toward becoming a certified intimacy coordinator to help create environments where trust, consent, and care are at the center of the process.

An intimacy coordinator works closely with actors, directors, and crew to ensure that scenes involving physical touch, romance, or intimacy are handled with clear communication, consent, and creative collaboration. It’s not about limiting art, it’s about helping everyone feel safe and supported so they can bring their best work to the screen.

From scripting to rehearsals to shooting the scene itself, intimacy coordinators help build trust, set clear boundaries, and reduce the emotional and physical risks that can come with these moments. They also advocate for performers, making sure no one ever feels pressured, confused, or unsafe. With everything we know today about safety, power dynamics, and trauma informed work, the role of an intimacy coordinator isn’t optional it’s essential. But there still aren’t enough of us, people who are not only trained, but also deeply committed to creating safe, respectful spaces for actors. I want to be part of that change, and help lead the way for the next generation of storytellers.

As a full time student, my time and resources are already stretched thin. Between classes, projects, and trying to make ends meet, it’s incredibly difficult to cover the additional costs of specialized training like this. The certification process involves more than just tuition it includes workshop fees, travel, materials, and sometimes unpaid training hours on set. I’m deeply committed to this path, but I can’t do it alone. Your support would help lift the financial burden so I can fully focus on becoming the best intimacy coordinator I can be. Every dollar will go directly into making this dream a reality, so I can help protect and uplift others in this industry.

If you believe in safe sets, in better storytelling, and in creating a more equitable Film and Television industry, please consider donating or sharing. Thank you so much for helping me take this next step!

With Love,
