Hello, my name is Rodolpho Loureiro, and I am an educator supporting math and science teachers across the state of Florida to create the future generation of STEM. In February, my life took an unexpected turn – I underwent an emergency liver transplant. It was a humbling, life-altering experience. During those long days in the hospital, I had much time to reflect on what truly matters and how I want to show up in the world moving forward.
Physically, recovery hasn’t been easy, but I’ve embraced the challenge. I had to relearn to walk, eat, shower, and more. Now that I'm home, I’ve made the conscious choice to honor this new liver—and this second chance—by living as healthily as possible. Alcohol is no longer a part of my life, and I’m feeling better than I have in years.
Mentally – I’ve also made my mental health a priority, leaning into daily meditation, journaling, and weekly therapy to process the trauma of this experience and adjust to this new lifestyle of mine. These practices have helped me rediscover my purpose and appreciate the small victories in each day.
Professionally, I am HUNGRY to improve and make a difference! I’m excited to share that I’ve been accepted into the prestigious NFLBME fellowship. This fellowship is an opportunity to develop my leadership skills alongside some of the brightest minds in my field. It feels like the perfect way to channel my renewed energy and focus into meaningful work.
I'm looking for support to seize this opportunity to cover the fellowship fees. This fellowship is a year-long opportunity for me to develop my leadership skills and strong network amongst other Black and Latino educators.
If you can contribute or simply share this message to help me reach a wider audience, I’d deeply appreciate it.
Thank you to everyone who has stood by me, checked in on me, and encouraged me during this journey.
