Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read my mission! I included a brief backstory at the end if you're not familiar with my why.
I need independence. I have a lot of appointments that require others to come chauffeur me, or I pay driving services to come take me. I feel like a burden to those I love. As inexpensive as the driving services are, I can't always get the service when I need it. That cost does adds up, too. I do not go to all of the appointments I should. I go to the most important ones (PT/OT, rehab doctor). I simply can't get to all of the places based on my inability to drive.
I am cleared to proceed with adaptive driving controls! This means special equipment for the car, installation, as well as driving lessons and testing.
The cost breakdown is:
$250 driver eligibility testing (done)
$225 driver adaptive equipment session
$125 (per session) driver training
$200 to use the training cars to test
$$ BMV testing and licensing
$$ equipment TBD at next session
$$ installation TBD dependent on equipment needed.
I will update those last few as soon as I know. The equipment cost is estimated at $1000 - $6000.
Any amount you can give will help. I'm staying afloat on medical expenses thanks to great insurance, but copays add up. I am hoping I can exceed my goal to help with those expenses, especially since I will be able to go to more appointments.
Brief backstory: on July 23, 2024 I had surgery to receive a pain stimulator. On July 26, I experienced a shock head to toe that landed me in the ER due to extreme pain. July 27, I was rushed into surgery for a lamonectomy to relieve pressure on my spinal cord covering T5 - T9. This left me as a paraplegic. The good news is that the injury is incomplete, meaning the spinal cord was not severed. I have a chance to recovery some of the ability that was lost. I'm fighting every day to do just that. I've made great progress so far.. emphasis on so far!
