Queer Arts Coalition (QAC) provides support, opportunity, and resources for artists under the "queer" umbrella. There is a clear need for our work. Many of the most talented artists are losing resources and opportunities. We have received more requests for support than ever before. We want to meet those needs.
QAC and our artists are directly impacted by the increasing restrictions and regulations for funding. We recognize that times are challenging for everyone right now, and there are many wonderful places in need of support. Therefore, we have narrowed our fundraising aims to three main goals where we are uniquely qualified to support artists. We are raising $16,000 to support the following QAC initiatives:
- Distributing grants to individuals in Film, Writing, Drag, Music, and Producing to empower queer artists elevating their careers. These grants are meant to encourage artists as they bring their ideas to life. They will be awarded to artists who excel in their fields, and this access to funding will help take their work to the next level. QAC will continue to be a resource as projects develop.
- Producing Cecilia Gentili's RED INK at Edinburgh Fringe. God won't give up on Cecilia Gentili. Unfortunately, neither will the devil. Follow a young trans girl as she navigates the hilarity of rural Argentina in the 1970’s. Part stand-up, part camp, and (almost) all true, Cecilia Gentili's RED INK is an irreverent romp in the search for faith while trans. The production will star Chiquitita and will be produced by Breaking the Binary Theatre, Elliot Page & PAGEBOY Productions, Sara Ramirez, Queer Arts Coalition, and Nic Cory.
- Supporting administrative growth to fund mentorship programs and offer free and/or low-cost classes by industry leaders to support artists regardless of income. Often, artists want to practice their craft or learn new skills, but the cost can be so high that it is a huge barrier to entry. Of course, those class prices are high because of the invaluable skills being taught and the cost to teach for those professionals. Our funds will directly supplement these courses so that they can be offered for free or at low costs. These classes will be by the community and for the community. It will be a chance for artists to meet, improve their craft, and learn new skills.
If we can exceed our goals, we hope to include more of our previous aims for this year, including but not limited to a TGNC writers retreat, grants in Comedy and Photography, and producing more new works.
Thank you for your support!! We are incredibly grateful!
