My name is Nilton Maa, a Peruvian writer and cultural organizer living between Lima, Huanchaco, and New York City. After many years of learning, creating, and being supported by the artistic community in NYC, I feel deeply grateful — and ready to give back to my country through this project.

The Huanchaco Speaks Festival is a four-day literary and community event on the northern coast of Peru. It will bring together poets and storytellers from the coast, the Andes, and the Amazon — voices that are often left outside the canon — to share their work through readings, conversations, and creative writing workshops for local audiences, including children and teenagers from nearby schools.

This festival honors the legacy of Julia Wong Kcomt, a remarkable poet from La Libertad whose work bridged deserts, seas, and languages.

Mi nombre es Nilton Maa, escritor y gestor cultural peruano que vive entre Lima, Huanchaco y Nueva York. Después de muchos años de aprender, crear y recibir el apoyo de la comunidad artística en Nueva York, siento una profunda gratitud y el deseo de retribuir todo lo aprendido a mi país.

El Huanchaco Speaks Festival es un encuentro literario y comunitario de cuatro días en la costa norte del Perú. Reunirá a poetas y narradores de la costa, la sierra y la selva, voces que muchas veces quedan fuera del canon, para compartir su obra a través de lecturas, conversaciones y talleres de escritura creativa dirigidos también a niños y adolescentes de los colegios locales.

El festival rinde homenaje a Julia Wong Kcomt, poeta de La Libertad cuya obra tendió puentes entre los desiertos, los mares y las lenguas del mundo.
