My name is Masereka Owen from Kasese, Uganda, Africa. I am an orphan, and I currently take care of several other orphaned children here in Uganda who are also in need. My parents died from Malaria but I was fortunate enough to already have some education and that's why I'm caring for others. I want to see to it that they are able to go to school as well. It has proven near impossible for me to personally come up with enough income to support myself and their needs. We are facing many challenges, including lack of school fees, basic necessities such as food, clothing, and medical care, and even a safe place to stay. At the moment, we do not have land of our own where we can settle permanently.
Our dream is not only to meet our immediate needs but also to start small projects that can help us become self-sustainable and improve our future as orphans.
A kind friend has helped me create a GoFundMe fundraiser so that well-wishers like you can support us during these difficult times. Any donation you are able to give through the fundraiser will make a great difference in our lives and help us survive and grow toward a better future.
For my education, I pay 1.7 million UGX ($473) per semester , and I am now remaining with only 3 semesters to complete my studies. This means I need a total of 5.1 million UGX ($1,419) to finish my education.
In addition, I have a strong hope of starting a small poultry project (chicken rearing). I would like to begin with support starting from $50 and above. This project will help me and the children I care for by providing food, helping when someone gets sick (including me), and supporting our basic needs.
I also dream of getting a small piece of land where we can stay safely and peacefully. Land here costs about 6 to 9 million UGX ($1,668 - $2,502), and in the future I hope to build a simple home for the children and me.
Any support or contribution toward my education, the poultry project, or land will make a very big difference in our lives. I will be very grateful for any help you can offer.

The GoFundMe platform is not available to people who live in Uganda so they are unable to create their own fundraisers. Owen and many others have asked me for assistance in setting up fundraisers as there are no local social services available in this very impoverished part of the world.
