Assalamu Alaikum,

My name is Shakira Ali, and I am a freshman at Harvard University. While I am fortunate to be receiving one of the best educations in the world, I carry with me the memories of my roots—of my father’s village in Charfesson, Bhola, Bangladesh. A place where love and resilience thrive despite hardship.

This campaign is deeply personal to me because it is a continuation of a dream—one that began with my beloved grandmother (Dadu), Akima Khatoon. She was a woman of immense strength, who, despite not having access to education herself, always believed that knowledge was the key to a better future. She looked at the orphaned children in her village not as strangers, but as her own. She shared whatever little she had—food, clothes, warmth—always wishing she could do more for them.

With all the savings she could gather, she and our family built an orphanage and a school in her name, a safe haven where children could eat, learn, and dream beyond the cycle of poverty they were born into. Today, her legacy lives on. This orphanage has become home to nearly 55 incredible children, ranging from ages 5 to 17, who long for the same opportunities we so often take for granted—education, safety, and a chance at a brighter future.

This past winter, I had the privilege of visiting the orphanage myself. I spent time with the children, and what struck me the most was their kindness, intelligence, and resilience. They are not just orphans; they are future teachers, doctors, engineers, and leaders—full of potential, but lacking the resources to unlock it.

Despite facing extreme poverty, climate hardships, and limited facilities, they are eager to learn. They are mastering academic subjects, Islamic studies (many striving to become Hafiz of the Quran), and essential life skills like cooking, cleaning, farming, fishing, and trading. They dream of breaking the cycle of poverty, but they need our help.

What They Urgently Need

We are raising funds to support their education and daily needs while working towards a sustainable future for the orphanage. With your generosity, we can:

Provide essential daily needs – Food, clean drinking water, clothing, medical care
Improve their living conditions – Fix leaking roofs, buy beds, and ensure they have a safe place to sleep
Expand their education – Purchase books, computers, and digital resources so they can learn coding, language skills, and technical training
Build sustainability – Acquire assets that generate long-term income for the orphanage, ensuring it continues to run for generations to come
Give them a childhood – Support recreational activities so they can experience joy and laughter amidst their struggles
