As the leader of the 2023 Makerere iGEM Team (https://2023.igem.wiki/makerere-uganda/team ), he secured a silver medal at the iGEM World Championship in Paris and the Global Open Genetic Engineering Competition (Gogec). His team's project focused on developing biosensors for detecting toxic polyaromatic hydrocarbons, addressing critical environmental challenges. Inspired by their success, Michael founded SynBio Eco ( https://synbioeco.org/ ), Africa's pioneering startup leveraging synthetic biology for climate resilience and environmental restoration.

He has assembled a research team of biomedical science students aiming to disrupt feedback loops in cancer signaling pathways, potentially revolutionizing treatment strategies.
