Help Educate and Empower Nicaraguans

Thanks to the generosity of my amazing colleagues at North Shore Community College as well as friends and family, I exceeded my original fundraising goal of $1000 and even reached my new goal of $1,500! I want to thank everyone who contributed to support the San Juan Del Sur Sister Project. I've heard from a few people who would still like to donate so I will keep the fundraiser open until Sept 15th and then I transfer all of the funds raised to the San Juan Del Sur Sister Project to support their Free High School and Eco Stove programs! For those who need a little more information about this organization and why I am raising funds to support then, please read below!

This Fall I will be on sabbatical from teaching at North Shore Community College and will be spending two months in Nicaragua to improve my Spanish skills and volunteer with a local non profit organization.

The Newton/San Juan Del Sur Sister Project works with Nicaraguan locals to build "EcoStoves" with chimneys to get life-threatening smoke out of people’s kitchens (and lungs). They also run a Free High School for Adults which provides high-quality secondary and technical education to under-served low-income populations.

Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America, but also one of the poorest. The average weekly wage is $50 US dollars. A donation of just $20 can help build an EcoStove for a family or buy school supplies for an adult pursuing their high school degree at the Free High School. 100% of your donation will go towards program activities in Nicaragua.
