Empower Myanmar's Youth: Fund Max Help's School for Peace

The construction of the Max Help physical school continues, with some students already living and learning in the new facilities. Funds are still needed to install solar panels to ensure an efficient electrical supply for the school, better communications systems to help facilitate the expansion of the school into other parts of the country, and more dormitories and classrooms to accommodate more children.

In February 2021, the military in Myanmar staged a coup, overthrowing the democratically elected government and arresting most of its leaders. This action ended a decade of democratic rule and triggered widespread protests, leading to a violent crackdown by the military. The coup has since resulted in a protracted civil war, with increased violence against civilian populations.

This has had a serious impact on the people of Myanmar, especially on the education of the children. As the military carries out indiscriminate attacks throughout the country, schools have been destroyed and families forced to flee into the surrounding jungle. Children cannot learn in this dangerous situation, leaving them and their parents without hope for a peaceful and productive future.

The Max Help project was developed to provide children with the opportunity to learn in a creative and more secure atmosphere. Priority is given to impoverished children living in war zones where they face constant fear of military attacks. As construction of the school continues, more than 30 children have already moved into the dormitories and are now participating in a new kind of education with a focus on Project-Based Learning (PBL). They not only learn basic subjects, but also life skills, which can provide them with greater opportunities in the future. Activities focused on justice, peace, conflict transformation, and critical thinking prepare them to be the vanguard for a new and long-lasting peace movement in the country.

Your contributions can help these students, their teachers, and their parents by providing solar panels to bring light into the classrooms and dormitories, an updated communications system, as well as construction of more essential classrooms and dormitories.
