Empower my Independence to get me moving!

Update: Finally Home and Continuing the Journey

Hi everyone, I’m thrilled to share that I’m finally back home after my hospital stay.
However, I'm still mostly bed-bound and housebound as I continue to navigate this challenging journey.

Your support has been a beacon of hope during this tough time, and I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated so far.

I’ve recently been referred for a detailed wheelchair assessment, which will help determine the exact specifications of the specialized wheelchair I need. This is a crucial step towards regaining some mobility and independence.

Unfortunately, due to the current unsuitability of our house, we are also faced with the need to move. The funds raised will go towards the cost of the wheelchair, relocation expenses and additional care costs or supplies that the NHS does not cover.

Your generosity has already made a significant difference, and I can’t thank you enough.

If you could continue to share my story and this campaign with your networks, I would be immensely grateful.

Together, we can make this next chapter a bit easier.

Thanks

Mark

Hey there, it's Mark Facer, known to some as Facer or Marky!

You might know me from our shared experiences growing up, or bonding over tarantulas and reptiles, or from our vibrant community interactions. But what you might not be aware of are the health hurdles I've been navigating lately, which have drastically altered my life.

For years, I've been in a relentless battle with fibromyalgia, Scheuermann's kyphosis, spinal fusions, and lymphoedema. These conditions have unleashed waves of pain and severely curtailed my ability to move freely, leaving me reliant on crutches just to get around.

Unfortunately, over the past year, things have taken a steep nosedive. The feeling and strength in my legs and lower back have dwindled, leading to frequent falls and a frustrating lack of stability. This has only exacerbated my spinal cord and nerve issues, culminating in a recent month-long hospitalization.

Now, the next step hinges on an MRI scan, but I must shed some weight first. There's also talk of potential spinal surgery, a prospect laden with risks given my complex medical history, which I still may not be able to have.

In the interim, I'm in dire need of a specialised wheelchair to stave off the spectre of being confined to my bed and to reclaim a measure of independence.

This isn't your run-of-the-mill wheelchair; it's tailored to provide crucial spinal support and accommodate my larger frame. With its assistance, I can vastly improve my posture, enhance my overall comfort, and, most importantly, mitigate the risk of further falls, which have already left me with a fractured foot and the potential for even graver injuries.

Before landing in the hospital, I had embarked on a venture printing t-shirts. Every penny from these sales is earmarked for the wheelchair fund. I'm also exploring additional avenues to cobble together the necessary funds.

Your support would mean everything to me. And in return, I'd be thrilled to unleash my design prowess to craft something special for you once I'm back on my feet—literally and figuratively.

I'm turning to you—my friends, family, and community—to help raise £1000 towards my wheelchair. Your generosity would not only empower me to continue pursuing my passions but also safeguard my mental well-being, which deteriorates the longer I'm tethered to my bed.

Thank you from the depths of my heart for lending an ear to my story and for any assistance you can offer.

With heartfelt appreciation,
Mark Facer
