Empower My Educational Endeavors in Oaxaca, MX

Hello everyone,

I am reaching out with a deep and heartfelt request for your support as I pursue an incredible educational opportunity that holds immense personal and cultural significance for me.

From the very first day I embarked on my journey towards a Master's degree in Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin, I had a dream – a dream of completing my final practicum and final semester of grad school at CANICA de Oaxaca in Mexico. This dream was more than just an academic aspiration; it was a journey back to my ancestral lands and an opportunity to work with individuals who share my cultural background.

During my two-year program, I was fortunate to receive a generous scholarship that supported my academic pursuits. With this financial assistance, I believed I could finally fulfill my dream of studying abroad in Mexico. Unfortunately, I faced an unexpected hurdle. My scholarship threatened to block me from seizing this unique opportunity, despite meeting all but one requirement. Undeterred, I spent my first year connecting with faculty and professors who were willing to advocate for my placement.

My passion for cultural immersion and personal growth drew me to Oaxaca de Juárez with a profound sense of purpose. As someone who holds both my heritage and my aspirations of working with Latinx and Indigenous communities close to my heart, I believe I am uniquely positioned for this internship placement. I am eager to immerse myself in Oaxaca's rich culture and utilize my skills to contribute respectfully and meaningfully to the community.

After much effort, the school has graciously offered me the internship, but with some financial stipulations. I am required to go without the financial support of my scholarship for my final semester. As the internship is unpaid, I need assistance to cover part of my tuition/fees and to support myself during this time. Additionally, I will be on hiatus from my job, which I have held for over 8 years.
