Hi! My name is Megan, and I’m a mom of 3. I’m also a wheelchair user with Cerebral Palsy. While CP has never stopped me from pursuing my dreams or living a full life, the reality is that accessing the tools needed for independence isn’t always easy.

Right now, our family of five relies on a Ford Escape. Each time we go somewhere, my husband has to physically transfer me in and out of the vehicle and load my wheelchair as well. We’ve been making it work this way for the past 16 years, but we know that over time this will become more difficult for both of us.

That’s why I’m raising funds to hopefully purchase a wheelchair-accessible van with a wheelchair track system that would allow me to remain in my power chair while traveling. Having a van like this would truly be life-changing. It would give me greater freedom and independence—allowing me to come and go with much more ease—and it would also ease the physical demands on my husband and family.

It would also allow me to be more present for my children. Being able to use my power chair wherever we go means I can participate more fully in everyday moments with them—whether it’s school events, family outings, or simply being out in the community together. Those moments matter so much to me as a mom.

Beyond the physical benefits, the impact on my mental health would be incredible. Being able to travel comfortably, safely, and with greater independence would open up so many opportunities for everyday life and family activities, while also helping me feel more confident and empowered in my daily routine.

Unfortunately, wheelchair-accessible vans are incredibly expensive and out of reach for most families. Because of the specific modifications required, the van would need to be no more than two years old, which comes with a significant price tag.
