In March 2021, my daughter was a healthy, independent, and strong-willed young woman working as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at a major hospital in south Alabama. On the 15th of March, Megan was found unresponsive at home after not showing up to work. She was hospitalized for 16 days, diagnosed with epilepsy, out of work for 3 months and has suffered ongoing memory loss for four years. Megan continues to struggle with numerous seizures weekly while trying to raise two boys, work in the lab, and maintain a normal family life.
We have been working with The Hey Farm in Baldwin County, Alabama to obtain a service dog specifically trained for Megan that will react to her cues of pending seizures. A trained dog will alert her of an on-coming seizure before it starts, guide her to a safe area and position, and then notify co-workers or family members of the seizure. She is on anti-seizure medications and obtaining a service dog is part of a holistic approach to manage ongoing seizures.
Your support would be greatly appreciated. A service dog will improve Megan’s quality of life and help her regain some of her confidence and independence as well as reduce the worries/stress on her husband and two sons.
We would like to thank Lon Hodge, Director of Operation Fetch for his guidance and advice in finding a service dog for Megan.
