Empower Maryam: Afghan Girl's Taekwondo Journey

I’m Fatima Sharifi, Maryam’s friend, co-worker, and the President of the Afghan Student Association at the Asian University for Women. I’m reaching out with a heartfelt request to support an extraordinary young Afghan girl, Maryam Baqiri, as she prepares to represent Afghanistan and AUW at the India International Open Poomsae Championships, taking place on November 6–10, 2025, in Pune City, India.

Maryam is not only a fierce athlete but also a brilliant student. I've had the privilege of working closely with her and witnessing her unwavering dedication both in her martial arts training and in her academic journey. Despite facing the challenges of displacement and limited resources, Maryam has excelled through sheer hard work and resilience.

I have personally observed her grow in strength, skill, and spirit. Her performance in taekwondo has consistently improved, and she has earned recognition at the international level. Her academic record is equally impressive, balancing rigorous studies with daily taekwondo practice, a true mark of discipline and determination.

This competition is more than just a match; it's a chance for her to raise the Afghan flag with pride, to break stereotypes, and to show the world the strength of Afghan women.
