Type 1 Diabetes Won’t Stop This Soccer Dream
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Mario Torres and I’m chasing my dream—
…to become a professional soccer player ⚽️ while managing Type 1 Diabetes every single day.
I have been one of 20 players from all over the USA selected to attend the Super Copa Tournament in Toluca, México; this is the last phase of tryouts for the Mexico National Team! Not only will I have the opportunity to be selected for the Mexico National Team but there will be countless other scouts there from different clubs and teams.
I’ve been playing soccer since I could walk. For years, I’ve trained, sacrificed, and overcome countless challenges—not just on the field, but with my health. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 10, had osteochondritis dissecans in my knee in 2023 and vasculitis in 2024. Since then I’ve learned to balance my blood sugar, insulin, and intense workouts just to keep competing.
Now, I’ve been invited to attend Mexico National Team tryouts this July, 2025 in Toluca, Mexico
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity—but I need your help to get there.
What Your Support Will Cover:
✈️ Round-trip travel to Toluca
Diabetes supplies (CGM sensors, insulin, emergency kits):
Diabetes is expensive — especially while traveling and training at a high level. I need backups for everything: insulin, glucose monitors, snacks, medical letters — and your support can help make this dream possible.
What This Means To Me:
This isn’t just about making a team.
It’s about proving that nothing — not even a chronic illness — can stop you from honoring your roots and chasing your dreams.
It’s about showing kids like me that our struggles are real, but so are our victories.
Players like Scott Allan (Hibernian FC) and Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders, USMNT)—Nacho Fernández (Real Madrid) who play at the top level with Type 1 diabetes—prove that our condition doesn’t define our limits. Watching them push boundaries motivates me every time I lace up my cleats.
Please consider donating or sharing. Every bit helps — and I’ll carry your support with me every step of the way.
Con todo mi corazón — gracias
Mario
