Empower Marietta Macy's UN Advocacy Journey

You’re invited to my Adopt-an-Activist campaign! I have the opportunity for the first time to fulfil the dream of going to the United Nations in New York for the annual Commission on the Status of Women as part of the Presbyterian Church (USA) delegation! I'm asking for your help in supporting the cost of the invaluable experience of joining women from all over the world as we learn from and with each other.
Unfortunately, unlike in more prosperous years past, there is no meal stipend or expenses covered for participants in the delegation. I’ll be using airline miles to cover my transportation, but if you would be able to share a few dollars to support my $2000 goal for meals and lodging during this international gathering of women that would be amazing! (I’m also on PayPal and Venmo @Marietta-Macy). My original goal on my first post was $2500, but folks have already been so generous I'm almost $500 closer to that already!

In summary, “The Commission on the Status of Women is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. During its annual two-week session, representatives of UN Member States, civil society organizations and UN entities gather at UN headquarters in New York to discuss progress and commit to further action. The outcomes and recommendations of each session are forwarded to the Economic and Social Council, the Commission’s parent body, for follow-up.”

They explain, "The Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations has a long history in the global community. Active in the United Nations since its formation in 1945, the church has held special consultative status through the U.N. Economic and Social Council since 1998. This allows the Presbyterian voice to be heard by the global audience and contribute to its agenda by attending conferences, making statements, and taking part in advocacy and networking.
Amid the restless spirits and often-tough diplomacy of the United Nations, the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations helps inspire, equip, and connect Presbyterians for ministry as faithful disciples of Jesus in the global community. We educate with the hope of helping individuals live out God’s call in Christ to live with compassion, seek peace, and pursue justice wherever they go."
