Empower Malawian Girls & Boys: Support Caroline's Vision

In a developing nation like Malawi, education is not merely a pathway to personal growth—it is the bedrock upon which the country’s future rests. For a nation striving to overcome economic challenges and build a brighter tomorrow, equipping young minds with knowledge and skills is paramount. As a Malawian, I, Caroline Kautsire, have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education and the barriers that prevent many of our youth, particularly girls and boys from underserved communities, from accessing it. Living in Boston, Massachusetts, as an English professor, mentor, and author of two published books, I am driven by a deep desire to contribute to my homeland by ensuring that young Malawians have the opportunity to pursue their dreams through education.

Malawi’s young people are brimming with potential, yet economic hardships in many households create insurmountable obstacles to schooling. The lack of funds for tuition, books, and basic upkeep forces countless girls and boys to abandon their studies, dimming their prospects and depriving the nation of future leaders, innovators, and change-makers. This is particularly acute in senior secondary classes, where support is often scarce, leaving students at a critical juncture without the resources to continue. Recognizing this urgent need, I am launching The Caroline Kautsire Scholarship Program to provide educational pathways for 18 deserving students from Lilongwe Girls Secondary School and Blantyre Secondary School. Building on the success of my recent book tour in Malawi, where I raised funds to donate food, books, and school materials to 10 institutions, this initiative aims to keep young Malawians in school by covering their tuition (K100,000 per student) and providing upkeep funds.

The plan is simple yet impactful. Working with the schools’ bursary committees, we will identify students in need, ensuring transparency and fairness. Tuition fees will be paid directly to the schools, while upkeep funds will be disbursed to students through trusted partners in Malawi. In September 2025, I will send representatives—author and political analyst Wonderful Mkhutche and Mr. Ben Kautsire—to visit the schools, speak to the students, and present scholarship certificates. To maintain accountability, the program will be rigorously documented, with media coverage, termly school reports, and annual consolidated reports detailing student progress and fund utilization. Every penny will be accounted for, providing donors with clear evidence of the program’s effectiveness.

I cannot do this alone. Through a GoFundMe page, I am appealing to individuals and partners to contribute whatever they can to make this vision a reality. Imagine a Malawi where every girl and boy has the chance to attend school, gain knowledge, and build a future that uplifts their families and communities. Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering a generation to shape a stronger, more prosperous nation. By supporting The Caroline Kautsire Scholarship Program, you are investing in Malawi’s youth and, by extension, its future. Please donate today and help us send our girls and boys to school. Together, we can make a lasting difference.
