Empower Maasai Women: Help Fund Financial Literacy Education

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Anika, and I’m a third-year student at Carleton University. I’m raising $5,000 to develop a financial literacy program for Maasai women in Tanzania who possess tailoring skills but lack the financial knowledge to apply those skills for sustainable success.

These women, aged 20-40, have learned the art of tailoring and crafting beautiful clothes, but many struggle to turn their skills into a profitable business. Cultural norms, limited access to education, and gender-based financial inequality restrict their ability to save, budget, and grow their income.

In April, I’ll be traveling to Tanzania to help set up this program, and your support is crucial to making it happen. The main cost for the program is hiring a qualified teacher who will deliver a specialized financial literacy curriculum that empowers these women to manage their money, grow their businesses, and ultimately achieve financial independence.

How Funds Will Be Used:
We are seeking $5,000 to cover the main cost of the program, which will include:

  • Teacher Compensation: The primary cost is hiring a qualified instructor to teach the financial literacy curriculum. This teacher will provide expert guidance on budgeting, saving, and investing, helping the women apply their tailoring skills in a financially sustainable way.
  • Materials: Providing simple teaching tools like chalk, boards, notebooks, and visual aids to make learning easy and engaging.
  • Community Engagement: Ensuring the program is culturally relevant by engaging with Maasai community leaders and potential participants.

Why Your Support Matters:

This program is designed to empower Maasai women to take control of their financial futures. With $5,000, we can provide them with the education and tools they need to transform their tailoring skills into thriving businesses. The main cost is hiring a qualified teacher to deliver the program, as the teacher’s role is critical in ensuring the women gain the skills and confidence to manage their money and grow their small businesses.

Your donation will directly contribute to the teacher’s compensation, the provision of education tools, and the overall success of the program. By supporting this initiative, you’ll be part of helping Maasai women achieve financial independence, create lasting businesses, and change their lives for the better.

I’ll be in Tanzania in April, working on the ground to bring this program to life. Your contribution will help ensure this vital financial literacy education reaches the women who need it most.

Thank you so much for your support in making this a reality.
