Empower Lilly with Light House
Donation protected
Lilly fled Congo (DRC) to find shelter in a refugee camp in Zimbabwe. She lived there for 13 years before coming to the U.S. While there, she met and married her husband.
However, it was not possible for them to get the proper documentation for their marriage. Her husband was not able to come with her, because they were not legally married. They have been apart for 2 years. Lilly has been navigating American culture, working, and providing for herself without complaint. Most refugees are able to be resettled with family. It's hard enough to learn a new culture and language, but it's even harder to do it alone.
We want to give you an opportunity to empower Lilly.

When we approached her about looking at her budget to see what it would take for her to buy a car (so that she wouldn't have to spend 4 hours getting to and from work everyday), she told us about her situation. More than buying a car, she wants to be reunited with her husband.
Lilly's quality of life would immensely improve if she could have her life partner by her side and have means of transportation.
We are empowering her by helping her jump over this huge hurdle of reunification, which requires a large sum of money.
Your donations will go toward Lilly's plane ticket, documentation fees, and room and board during her stay in Zimbabwe. Any money over and above the goal will go toward future Light House projects to empower refugees.

This project is put on by Light House Coffee. Lilly is one of our employees at Light House. We first met her when one of our owners was her English teacher when she first arrived in the U.S. They stayed in touch and became friends. We plan to get the funds to Lilly and also help her with all the details such as booking the plane ticket at the best price possible, helping her apply for her travel documents, helping her find a place to stay while in Zimbabwe, and anything else that she might need.
