Empower Khetasar Kids: Support Sumer's Coding Classes

Donation protected
Hello everyone! My name is Ayan Mahajan, and I'm trying to raise money for kids in Khetasar, a village in India, to learn programming.

This summer, my family and I visited Khetasar, a small, yet beautiful, village in Rajasthan, India, known for its sandy dunes, farmland, and warm-hearted community. We booked the Dhanna Ram Ki Dhani Village Homestay and had an absolutely wonderful experience — would definitely recommend to everyone! This village of just 200 residents remains far from the urban areas of Rajasthan, and therefore access to a quality education remains a major challenge. However, I was amazed to see that even despite this lack of education, every single child in the village was motivated to learn. During our stay, we were especially inspired by our host, Sumer Ram, a 24-year-old man, born and raised in Khetasar, with the goal of giving the kids in the village a better education.

Due to the lack of education, distance from metropolitan or urban areas, and the inability to pay for things like college tuition, Sumer realized that the only way to give the village children a chance at a better life was to teach them coding. India has a growing IT market, especially in terms of labor, which meant learning how to program and code would give the village children the opportunity to one day get a good job in IT and make a better life for themselves. Because of this, although he knew little about computers himself, Sumer went out of his way to teach the village children about computers and typing. Now, around 25 children from the village come to study computer literacy for free, every day in a small classroom Sumer built in his home.

Unfortunately, Sumer can only afford a single computer, which is what he uses to teach the classes, as well as what the students use to practice. Additionally, since Sumer only started this project recently, he has only been trying to teach the students how to use a computer and how to type as of now, but his goal is to teach them how to speak English fluently and how to program in different languages.

My goal is to raise money for Sumer, to buy multiple second-hand computers, and construct a better classroom where the students can effectively learn English and programming. With this money, we can open a variety of opportunities for the students in this village, and create a better future for each and every one of them.

Thank you very much for your kindness and support.

With gratitude, and lots of love,
Ayan Mahajan
