Empower Kenyan Children: Donate to The Mara Hope School
Donation protected
I'm Hope Schultz and I am raising money for the Mara Hope School In Narok, Kenya in support of my dear friend Lucy Ketere. I met Lucy in 2012 and we've been fast friends ever since. Lucy is smart, accomplished, kind, and a woman with a love for and commitment to her community. She has raised 10 children, only three being her own, educated local girls on how to escape the threat of female genital mutilation, and distributed feminine hygiene products to young girls. Now she has a new mission, that I wholeheartedly support. And I hope you will too!
$250 will pay a child's school fees, learning materials and supplies, teacher's salary, lunches, and school uniforms for one year.
The Mara Hope School is not just a personal endeavor for Lucy, but a lifeline for children and the community. Despite facing immense challenges during her own education, including a perilous journey to school through the bush, home to many dangerous animals, she was inspired to create a safe haven for learning. Witnessing the struggles of women in her community, devoid of decision-making power and ownership, fueled her determination to make a difference. She embarked on an extraordinary path as a safari guide. She became the first female ranger in Kenya, breaking stereotypes in a male-dominated field, and paving the way for girls and women with the same ambitions. Through initiatives focused on women's empowerment and providing essential supplies to schools, Lucy strives to uplift and inspire those around her.
The Mara Hope School's mission is to offer quality education, especially to underprivileged children, ensuring they start and finish school on time. By addressing barriers like long distances to school and financial constraints, the school aims to support girls' education and rescue those at risk of early marriages and harmful practices. The vision extends to expanding the school to higher grades to provide continued support and guidance through the challenges that students face. With the motto "Finish Illiteracy, Change the World," the Mara Hope School stands as a testament to the transformative power of education, promising a brighter future for all.
