Support Our Youth: Kellom Elementary Back-2-School Drive
Cities Compassionate Care (CCC) is a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to addressing systemic injustices and empowering our youth with the tools they need to succeed.
This year, we are organizing a back-to-school supply drive for Kellom Elementary in North Omaha. Despite the rich cultural heritage and legacy of Black entrepreneurship in North Omaha, the community has long faced significant wealth inequalities due to historical disinvestment, extreme redlining, and housing discrimination. These systemic issues have resulted in deteriorating infrastructure, limited economic opportunities, and lower property values, contributing to persistent educational disparities as schools receive less funding and resources.
Although programs like the Integrated Learning Program (ILP) by Omaha Public Schools, the Urban League of Nebraska's after-school programs, and initiatives by the ACLU of Nebraska provide valuable support, they are not enough to completely eradicate the deep-seated inequalities faced by students in North Omaha. Our supply drive aims to raise awareness about wealth injustices in education by providing essential school supplies to students in need.
Additionally, CCC plans to launch a mentorship program focused on financial literacy, leveraging privilege, organizing, and community building to empower students with the knowledge and resources they need to succeed and advocate for their future.
We invite you to support our cause by donating monetary contributions or dropping off supplies at bins located around Omaha. For updates about the drive, please follow our Instagram account @pwr4theppl and visit our website: Cities Compassionate Care
