UPDATE July 2025
Hard to believe we’re already halfway through 2025.
I want to apologize for not updating everyone sooner—this year has been extremely eventful, especially with Jason’s health.

Almost exactly a year ago, Jason was rushed into emergency brain surgery after complications from a previous surgery started to worsen. After getting him to a new specialist, he was immediately admitted and underwent another brain surgery. They removed all the foreign materials from his head and cleared out a massive infection that had begun to cause dangerous swelling.

Because of how extensive this surgery was, a large flap of his scalp had to be removed, and he’ll soon need to undergo another surgery for skin grafts to close the area. After a week-long hospital stay, we were able to bring him home with a PICC line. I was trained by his infectious disease team on how to administer 24-hour antibiotics and perform daily wound care on his head.

We’re now nearing the end of this 6-week treatment, and by the grace of God, we’ve managed to keep the large wound free from infection—preparing him for the next stage of surgery.

Two weeks ago, we did face a scary moment when Jason suffered a 3-minute grand mal seizure, prompting a 911 call. Thankfully, after 24 hours of observation, everything checked out okay.

Jason has been an absolute trooper—learning how to live with the PICC line, being careful not to tug on it or get it wet during showers, and tolerating the awful taste the flush leaves in his mouth (he never lets me forget it with that grumpy face!). His appetite has dropped significantly due to the antibiotics, but he’s found a new appreciation for Boost shakes, which is a first for him. The fatigue and irritation have been tough, so we’ve kept things low-key at home. We’re also staying isolated to avoid exposing his open wound to any potential infection.

God willing, this upcoming surgery will go smoothly, and he’ll be on the road to recovery and eventually begin rehabilitation—starting his new lease on life.

Thank you all for your continued support, love, and prayers. They mean the world to us.

Update : September 2024
Jason’s mobility has improved significantly on his right side but we do still have work to do with full range of motion with the leg and drop foot. Unfortunately we did have to have him rushed into the hospital last week due to him going into a full grand maul seizure. The hospital sent us away with another seizure medication as well as antibiotics due to a spot of phenomena they seen with the chest X-ray. We are keeping him as active as he allows us and we are really looking forward to this hot weather settling down so we can become more active in the outdoors.

Of course with anything dealing with assistance especially from the state/county etc it’s a hurry up and wait situation. It’s extremely frustrating and exhausting; most days it will make you want to throw in the towel. However , that will not be the case this time around and this sister is going to continue to knock on doors even if they tell us no the first time.

I can’t express into words how much the prayers and support for my brother have lessened the load with this all. Especially since we can not get red tape ripped down as fast as we would like or at all. We appreciate each and everyone of you who have helped this far and we ask that you continue to pray for Jason; share his story far and wide. I’m going to do my best to jump on and update when possible. We thank you all again from the bottom of our hearts and May God Bless you ❤️

I’m the blessed sister and caretaker of my beautiful brother, Jason. Jason just had to get an emergency brain surgery, his 5th one since he was 8 months old. He has suffered with seizure disorder, develop mental delays , autism and AVM’s in his brain before he turned one year old. Recently a tumor we were monitoring had finally grown larger enough that it needed to be removed as it was causing swelling in his brain. The AVM’s near the area the doctors needed to work on then caused leakage, additional swelling and a stroke. This now causing Jason’s life to take a different course with paralysis to the right side of his body and wound recovery on his head after the craniotomy .

Jason is a gentle giant and is going to require daily living assistance, intense therapy, and modifications to his current living situation. This includes his transportation, living quarters, therapists, and equipment he may need for independent mobility. That is the goal and what Jason has always deserved, happiness and his independence; all while living daily with over 23 AVM’s in his head.

Anyone who knows Jason knows that his smile and his hugs will turn a bad day into the happiest day ever. I will be working on getting a new communication device for Jason and the whole family involved in the training of the device and overall changes to Jason’s new life. This is going to require all hands on deck from Jason’s support circle and we are ready.

However, with the changes that Jason will require, unfortunately, we are not financially prepared after these past rough couple of years. I’m praying that we could go above and beyond our goal so that the worry if something else goes we will be able to eliminate the worry of being financially able. My parents have always remained humble and have never EVER asked for help nor received any help after these 39 precious years of my Bubba's life.

With this being Jason’s now 5th brain surgery, we realize we are beyond blessed to still have Jason on this earth with us. It is my goal FULL TIME now as his only sister and his biggest fan to do whatever it takes to make the rest of his years the best of his life. I thank you from the bottom of my heart with anyone who just takes the time to read this! More than anything monetarily, I ask if you could keep Jason in your prayers; it’s going to be a long road to recovery. My family and I thank you and may God bless you and your family! Hug your loved ones tight.
