Hey everyone
I wanted to share an update on my journey. Right after celebrating my 3 year cancerversary, I was diagnosed with grade one endometrial cancer. To be clear, I was told that it could be a different grade (stage if you will) but they won’t know unless I do surgery to have a hysterectomy (something I’m looking to get a second opinion on with new types of testing)! Shortly after (beginning of October) they found a mass on my ovary that is a little worrisome. I would like to think it’s another cyst but there’s no good way to test ovarian cancer in general. After my previous battle with stage 0 breast cancer and finding out I have Lynch syndrome, it feels like body is determined to keep me on my toes! The good news is I would like to think I’m lucky to keep catching it so early.
This time around, I’m taking a different approach. I’m diving deep into understanding my body on a personal level because I believe knowledge is crucial for my mental health and for the healing and prevention within my body. By truly learning how my body works, I hope to take away some of the anxiety that comes from hearing others’ stories and instead focus on my own unique situation and kicking re-occurrence of cancer. I may joke I’m trying to collect all cancers I’m high risk for but the truth is, I’m hoping this approach will kick them to the curb for good.
I’m utilizing a naturopathic metabolic oncologist to help me get to the root of why these health challenges keep arising. This journey will teach me how my lineage affects my health, reveal the best foods for my body, and provide insights on how my tumor might shift over time. I should also point out that it is integrative. If the tests show nothing is changing, it will guide me back to a more western approach. The key is knowing my body and what it personally needs no matter what it is and staying. Flexible and open minded with a strong team. That way, I can adapt my treatment plan as needed instead of just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.
Now, let’s address the financial side of things—it's a substantial hurdle. The initial cost for working with this oncologist is $10,000 for six months, plus all the additional tests, bloodwork, and healthier foods, supplements, tools, etc that aren’t covered by insurance. It’s a lot to manage, but I’m committed to this path and hopeful about the insights I’ll gain. I feel like this may be on the low end however it’s not a small number.
Any support you can provide, whether it’s a donation or leads on grants, would mean the world to me. I’m excited to not only empower myself through this process but also to share what I learn with others. Together, we can create a ripple effect of knowledge and understanding about health and wellness.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support—it truly makes a difference!
With all of my love,
Jaclyn
ps. For those who have helped already , thank you! From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate you more than you know! It’s been a little hectic here so it’s been hard to reach out
