Our son Ian Zimmerman is 21 years old, determined, and adventurous. On January 3rd, Ian was involved in a devastating skiing accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down (paraplegic), changing his life in an instant. While his independence was suddenly taken away, Ian has met this unimaginable challenge with remarkable strength, courage, gratitude, and a refusal to let his injury define him.
Ian is currently in intensive rehabilitation at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, where he works tirelessly each day to regain as much function and independence as possible. Ian loves cars, and one of his biggest goals is to drive again—representing freedom and a return to everyday life on his own terms. While we initially hoped to fund an adaptive vehicle, we have learned that Ian’s needs will continue to evolve as he progresses.
This GoFundMe is intended to support all adaptive equipment Ian may need, including an adaptive vehicle, motorized wheelchair, hand cycle, all-terrain wheelchair, adaptive bathroom equipment, and more. These items are not luxuries—they are essential for Ian to work, attend school and appointments, stay connected with family and friends, continue life on the farm, and rebuild his independence. All funds will be placed in trust and used solely for Ian’s direct needs. We are deeply grateful for any support—through donations or sharing his story—as Ian moves forward, one step and one mile at a time.
