Who: My name is Massimo Lambert-Mullen and I am raising money to support the Guarani-Kaiowa Indigenous Community in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. I am doing this because my friend, Guyra, who I met during a conference this fall, specifically reached out to me asking if I could help donate film-making equipment to his community. My childhood friend, Timoteo Flynn, a film/multimedia educator will be bringing this equipment to Brazil a few days before Christmas, and we will deliver the equipment directly to Guyra's village, where will we spend the holidays with his family.
Why: The Guarani and Kaiowa people have been dispossessed of 99% of their ancestral homeland since colonization, mainly due to the development of massive agro-business and ranching. Guyra's community has been on the frontline of a fight to maintain the forests that their ancestors called home against monoculture soybean plantations and cattle farms. The government and agri-business have worked together to oppress activists, leading to the murders of indigenous activists and numerous human rights violations over the past 50 years. Film equipment will be used to document this abuse and oppression, and leverage political and civil support for the struggle of the Guarani-Kaiowa.
What: Your donation will be used to purchase 4-5 multimedia film kits, consisting of quality used equipment including Macbook Pros for editing material, Canon Rebel Cameras and Lenses for filming, Iphone 12/13s for filming and communications and External Hard Drives and SD Cards.
When: We need these funds ASAP to purchase the equipment in time to bring it to Brazil.
Please donate whatever you can to help this cause, as it will literally be used to save the lives of indigenous activists on the ground, and ensure a liveable future for future generations. The Guarani-Kaiowa people, along with all indigenous peoples, should have sovereignty to tell their own stories, and your donation will help achieve this goal.
