My name is Jeanne and I am raising funds for my "adopted" nephew in Haiti. Ernso was my late sister Nora's sponsored child from the Compassion International program for many years. Nora went on two mission trips to Haiti and met with Ernso. When he aged out of the program, Nora and her husband, Terry, continued to support him. After Nora’s passing, Terry has continued to support him.

Ernso has always wanted to have a job or have a small business to create an income to be self-sufficient. Last year he discussed a purchase of a motorbike/taxi where he could earn a living. However the Haitian climate turned very violent and warring gangs took over Port-au-Prince.

Ernso is very afraid as his environment is more hostile, meaning, bullets are flying in the neighborhood. Last week the US Embassy came under gunfire.

His rent is due next week (in Haiti a room is paid one year in advance) and he needs to flee to the North (distance of 6 hours). He needs to leave behind everything to relocate to Cap-Haitian that has not succumbed to mob rule. Time is short and his needs are great.

Here is the cost breakdown for this fundraiser:

1. Travel north (not a simple one bus ride to the destination). FYI – hundreds are fleeing Porte-au-Prince. $300

2. Boarding room for one year paid in advance. $1,000

3. Cooking supplies, a mattress and food. $500

The next step is purchasing a motorbike/taxi. They only accept US dollars and a connection will be established that I can trust to get funds to the manufacturer. The cost is $5,500.

Our goal is to raise a total of $8,000.

Ernso is looking at safe options to leave Porte-au-Prince within the next several days.
